Whatsapp is a messaging application
According to the Manual for WhatsApp Messenger, ‘WhatsApp Messenger (the “Service”) is a proprietary software application developed by WhatsApp Inc, 1601 Willow Road, Menlo Park, CA 94025, USA (“WhatsApp”) for smartphones that allow you to send text, photo and video messages to your friends who are connected to your phone address book. One-on-one or group voice calls or video calls are also possible over a Wi-Fi connection or a mobile networks data connection. Please note that in order to use WhatsApp you must have an iPhone or Android smartphone (the “Device”). Your Device is linked to your phone number – you cannot have multiple phone numbers – and that’s usually your name. You will show up in your contacts’ address books using that name and, cleverly, that same never-changing phone number. Trust me, you will use it a lot. There’s not even your email address under that name in your contacts. Everything is likely all jumbled in that one column of names. No nicknames, no usernames. Just that number. It is what technicians refer to as end-to-end since, for reasons that are not entirely clear, only you and your contacts will ever be able to read your communications.

WhatsApp will add roaming charges to your bill if you use it abroad, away from your home network; for more specific details, please visit WhatsApp’s privacy page. If you are in some countries, you can even pay using WhatsApp by directly linking your bank account.
